“Face to Face with the Bear”

 We crouched low, and I positioned Zanda on the rifle. It wasn’t long before the boar’s back came into view. He was only about twenty‑five yards away, and at that exact moment he spotted us too. Rising up on his hind legs, he looked enormous—something I had never witnessed before, and it made him seem as massive as any bear. Tyler and I both shouted together, “Aim straight at his chest!” But no shot came. I repeated the command, louder this time… still nothing. By then the bear had had enough; he dropped back down on all fours and bolted away. — Kevin Orton
