Imagine chasing your dinner at more than 90 km/h, catching it, and then… having to wait before you can even eat it.
After a successful hunt, a cheetah is often exhausted, panting heavily and needs time to recover before feeding. They may rest for around 15–30 minutes while their breathing and body return towards normal. And this waiting period comes with a serious risk.
Cheetahs are built for speed, not for fighting. While they’re recovering beside their hard-earned meal, lions, hyenas, leopards and other competitors may arrive and steal it from them.
So even after winning the chase, the cheetah isn’t necessarily safe.
For a predator that can outrun almost anything on the savanna, sometimes the hardest part of the hunt begins after the running stops. 🤍🐾
