🐘 Dabassa Was Slowly Starving in the Wild

Dabassa was seen among adult bull elephants, but something was terribly wrong. Wildlife teams noticed the young calf in Kenya and began monitoring him because it was unusual for such a young elephant to be separated from a family herd. Over several days, his condition deteriorated.

Eventually, rescuers realised he was a milk-dependent calf who could not survive alone, especially during the dry conditions affecting the area. He had lost significant body condition and needed urgent intervention.

His rescue demonstrates why wildlife teams sometimes have to make difficult decisions. Leaving a young orphan in the wild may appear natural, but if the calf is still dependent on its mother for milk, rescue can be the only realistic chance of survival.
