After Decades of Loneliness, This Elephant Finally Found a New Home
Kaavan became internationally famous after spending decades at Islamabad Zoo in Pakistan. After the death of his companion Saheli, he spent years isolated and became known around the world as the “world's loneliest elephant.” FOUR PAWS and other campaigners worked for years to secure his rescue.
In November 2020, Kaavan was transported by air to a wildlife sanctuary in Cambodia. The journey required months of preparation, but it gave the enormous Asian elephant something he had been missing for years: space, freedom from chains, and the possibility of living around other elephants.
His new life quickly became a symbol of hope. Instead of spending his days isolated in a barren enclosure, Kaavan could explore a much larger natural environment. His rescue proved that even after decades of hardship, a new chapter can still begin.
