In the African wilderness, finding food is only half the battle. A predator that successfully makes a kill may still have to defend it from stronger or more numerous competitors. Leopards and hyenas can become involved in tense confrontations when food is at stake.
A leopard may drag its food into a tree to protect it from scavengers, using its climbing ability as an advantage. But when a hyena arrives, the leopard can be forced to make a difficult decision: fight, stay and defend the meal, or retreat.
These confrontations are excellent viral material because the outcome isn't obvious. “The Leopard Had the Food—Then the Hyena Arrived” is the kind of headline that immediately creates curiosity without inventing a false story.
