A Tiny Elephant Was Found With a Snare Wound—Then Her Recovery Shocked Everyone
In December 2024, a young female elephant named Lomphat was rescued in Cambodia after becoming separated from her mother and suffering a serious injury from a poacher's snare. Wildlife Alliance and park rangers transported her to the Phnom Tamao Wildlife Rescue Centre for treatment.
When she arrived, Lomphat weighed about 138 kilograms and had a severe wound on her front leg. Her recovery became a major focus for the rescue team, and by early 2025 her wound had healed dramatically. Her playful personality also made her popular with visitors and staff.
The story became even more hopeful as Lomphat gained weight and started taking forest walks with another rescued elephant, Chanam. Later updates reported that Lomphat had gained hundreds of kilograms and was becoming stronger and more confident.
