At only five months old, Lomphat was already fighting for her life. She was discovered in Cambodia's Ratanakiri province with a severe snare wound around her front leg. The injury was a devastating reminder of the danger illegal wildlife traps pose to wild animals.
Rescuers quickly transported her to Phnom Tamao Wildlife Rescue Centre, where veterinarians and elephant caretakers provided intensive treatment. She was severely underweight when rescued, but her condition gradually improved with medical care and specialised nutrition.
Her recovery has continued to amaze her caretakers. Later updates reported that her wound had healed and that she was growing stronger, taking forest walks alongside another rescued elephant, Chanam. The two young elephants have become an inspiring symbol of Cambodia's wildlife rescue efforts.
