A rhinoceros may appear slow and relaxed while grazing, but its enormous body can move with surprising speed. When a rhino becomes defensive, the situation can change before people have much time to react.
Rhinos have relatively poor eyesight compared with their other senses, so unfamiliar movement or sound can cause them to investigate. A vehicle or person that gets too close may suddenly become the focus of the animal's attention.
A rhino charging toward a safari vehicle is therefore one of those wildlife moments that immediately grabs an audience. The huge animal, the approaching camera and the reaction of the people nearby create natural suspense without needing exaggerated narration.
