🌊 Trapped in Mud and Given Almost No Chance — Bawa’s Miracle

Bawa was only around two weeks old when rescuers found him trapped in mud. He had been submerged for a long time, was severely dehydrated and emaciated, and had swallowed a large amount of mud. His eyes had also been badly affected by staring toward the sun for hours.

Doctors initially feared he would not survive. But rescuers refused to give up. For 48 hours, the team worked continuously, providing oxygen, an IV drip and intensive care to keep the tiny elephant alive.

Weeks later, Bawa began walking with the other elephants. Another elephant named Shaba became especially important to him, staying close as he recovered. What began as a rescue that seemed almost hopeless eventually became one of Reteti's remarkable survival stories.
